2007-2008 Scholarship Guidelines

Scholarship Overview

The Houston Section of NACE International has provided scholarships for over 20 years.  Scholarships have traditionally been funded by The Houston Education Week (formally The Gulf Coast Corrosion Seminar) and Golf Tournaments.

The available scholarships for the 2007-2008 Session include the following.

bulletChildren of Houston NACE Members Scholarship.
bulletHouston NACE Member Sponsored Student Scholarship.

Please note the qualifications before applying. 

Scholarship Qualifications

 Children of Houston NACE Members Scholarship: Qualifications.

bulletThe nominating parent must be a NACE Houston Section member in good standing.
bulletThe institution where the student is enrolled must be ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited.
bulletThe student must be attending college on a full time basis (12 hours/semester) and maintain a 2.5 GPA during for the previous two semesters.  A graduating high school senior is eligible as well. 
bulletStudents must send an official transcript or report card and a copy of course records with their application.  For graduating high school seniors, a letter of acceptance for the Fall semester from the university is required.
bulletThe applications forms and transcripts must be received at the office listed below by the close of the day June 1, 2008.
bulletAward preference will be given to students studying engineering disciplines related to corrosion sciences.  Further preferences will include the nominating parent’s participation in the NACE Houston Section, GPA, and extracurricular activities.

 Houston NACE Member Sponsored Student Scholarship: Qualifications.

bulletThe student must be sponsored by a NACE Houston Section member in good standing.  Further, a letter of recommendation for the student must be provided by the Section Member to the Scholarship Committee.
bulletThe sponsored applicant must be a domestic US student member in good standing at an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited university. 
bulletThe student must be attending college on a full time basis (12 hours/semester) and maintain a 2.5 GPA during the semester.  A graduating high school senior is eligible as well.

The Scholarship Committee is comprised of the following individuals.

 The decision to award   Children of Houston NACE Members Scholarships and Houston NACE Member Sponsored Student Scholarship will be based on the following descending criteria.

bulletMajor of Study,
bulletStudent Projects,
bulletGrade Point Average,
bulletExtra-curricular Activities,
bulletStanding of Parent or Sponsor in NACE Houston Section.

 All candidates will be notified of the Committees decision concerning their application.  The successful candidate will be presented with their Scholarship at the Houston Section August 12th Section Meeting.  The student and parents will be given complimentary dinners.  Other arrangements for presentation can be made in the event the student cannot attend the August Section Meeting.
