Microbially Induced
Corrosion in the Oil and Gas Industry
Jennifer Fichter, M.Sc.
Senior Microbiologist, Baker Petrolite
Overview and
discussion of what may be the number one corrosion threat to the US Oil and Gas
Industry today. Including both the science and strategies for monitoring and
mitigating microbiological corrosion.
Ms. Fichter joined the Baker Petrolite Integrity Management Group in 1998 as a
Senior Microbiologist. Her primary functions include field service and
applications technical support for the microbiocides product line, technical
training for account managers and customers, and research and development.
During her tenure at Baker Petrolite, she has worked on projects across the
lower 48 states in the U.S.A. and on the North Slope in Alaska, Canada,
Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Italy, Norway, U.K., Australia, Brunei,
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Algeria, and Egypt. She has been involved in the
development of a rapid enumeration method for SRB and has facilitated the
addition of new biocides and biostats to the oilfield microbiocide product
line.
Ms Fichter’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s
of Science in agricultural microbiology (1994) and a Master’s of Science in
microbiology (1996) from
Iowa State University. Ms.
Fichter is author/co-author of over 10 scientific publications and
presentations, with two additional papers currently in press. She has been an
invited speaker at SPE workshops, technical forums and customer schools.
